Three of our lovely English professors, Mrs. Barbara Goodwin, Dr. Chris Hair, and Dr. Nathan P. Gilmour, kindly lent us their voices to offer an introduction to Old English and its descendants in audio.

Mrs. Goodwin kindly reads Portia’s speech from Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice in early Modern English.

Dr. Hair reads from the Prologue to Geoffrey Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales in Middle English.

Dr. Gilmour reads a few lines from Beowulf in Old English.
