Adam Gallop: Creative Response #2

“After Walt Whitman: Stranger! If you, passing, meet me, and desire to speak to me”

Stranger! If you, passing, meet me, and desire to speak to me

Reach out and voice the questions you ponder.

Venture out of the comfort of familiar faces and swing into the unknown.

You never know what a simple “hello” could bring to your future.

Lifelong memories, perhaps unconditional love,

The very aspects of life we all yearn for.

Do not fret over what to say, or what topics to discuss.

The right things will come to mind if this is meant to be.

You don’t know my story, nor do I know yours.

I have lots to tell,

I would like to believe my life so far has been fulfilling.

I’m proud of all the memories I’ve made,

And all the accomplishments I’ve achieved.

Many have come and gone, I’ll never experience them again.

Retelling those stories is the closest I’ll get to reliving them.

Never am I in such a rush that I can’t spare a few minutes.

Heck even if I am,

It’s an excuse to be late to wherever I am heading.

So, if you ever see me in the streets and wish to speak to me,

Don’t be shy and take the risk.
